What is Caregiving?
Caregiving is the process of caring for sick, elderly or disabled individuals.
Many families are firm in their intention to take care of sick, elderly, or disabled parents or close relatives when they can no longer take care of themselves or when they are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Cancer and Dementia. However, our modern lifestyle involves many pressures and challenges such as both partners working; raising young children; spending time with their spouses, hobbies and other activities. Furthermore caring for a family member suffering from Alzheimer’s in particular can be extremely stressful because of the emotional distress, cognitive and behavioural complications that ensue.
As a result care giving obligations can become a burden with resultant significant strain on the whole family.
Due to the above, many family members contact us for relief, and our home care services become their first port of call for them.
Caregivers not only help people who are desperately in need of it, but they also provide much-needed companionship and friendship. This is very close to the heart of people receiving care.
Each one of us may need care giving assistance at some point in our own lives as well.
“Offering care means being a companion, not a superior. It doesn’t matter whether the person we are caring for is experiencing cancer, the flu, dementia, or grief.” Judy Cornish.
